Maui is one of the worlds most popular destinations, and we are here to help you find the best possible accommodations for your stay! For many first time visitors the choice of where to stay can be overwhelming! Here are some tips and information about the island we are sure you will find most helpful in narrowing down the best choice! What side of Maui should we stay on? Maalaea * Kihei * Wailea * Makena Kihei is sometimes referred to as the "Gold Coast". Kihei's (pron. kee-hay) name means "cape", and is both a residential and resort area. In the old days Wailea's name meant "water belonging to Lea"...the goddess of canoe making. Both towns are situated on the leeward side of South Maui, and have most of the prime beaches on the island. Because it is leeward, they have a dry and sunny climate. On the average they pick up about 14" of rain per year, and most of that during the winter months. Daytime temperatures range from about 80 degrees F. (26.7C) during winter, to 90 degrees F. (32.2C) or so during summer. White sand beaches grace the shorelines, with long walks available next to the warm Pacific. Those beaches usually have clear underwater visibilities that make for great diving. Many condo's and hotels are available, with spectacular ocean view. Most Popular Destinations in South Maui: Kihei - Kihei is the main city in south Maui. It is a long and narrow town that hugs the shoreline. It is sunny most of the year with an average rainfall of less than 20 inches per year. Kihei is home to over 1/3 of the resorts in south Maui, most of which are situated in the Kamaole Beach I, II, III area. There are many facilities, parking, shopping, activities and dinning nearby. There are several large parks in Kihei. Kalama Park, and the Kamaole Beaches are where you can enjoy a picnic, take in a game of volley ball, or watch canoe clubs practice. There is a excellent public golf course in Kihei, as well as world class resort golf courses nearby. Kihei is one of Maui's fastest growing areas with construction often taking place at one location or another along South Kihei Road. The Piilani Highway was intended to bypass Kihei and aid in the traffic flow. Traffic exceeded the level envisioned by the county planners many years ago, so like most everywhere on Maui, be patient and plan ahead. Traffic is heavy most all the time. Wailea - Wailea is a resort community that sits between Kihei and Makena. One of the best things about Wailea is that the beaches are very close to the specific resorts and facilities. The beaches themselves have more life guards, showers, and restrooms available than in most other areas. The west facing shoreline is somewhat protected from large ocean swells, so generally these beaches have a bit less surf than west facing beaches in West Maui. Along with the incredible resorts, there are great golf courses and wonderful tennis facilities in Wailea. There is not as much shopping available in Wailea as in other parts of Kihei, so most shopping will need to be done in Kihei. However, the Wailea shopping village is located in the heart of Wailea. Lahaina * Kaanapali * Honokowai * Kahana * Napili * Kapalua West Maui is considered
the first resort area on Maui, construction began in Ka'anapali over
30 years ago, the last resort to be completed (several years ago) in
West Maui would be the Ritz Carlton. The far Northern end of West Maui
is relatively undeveloped. The drive around the North end of West Maui
usually takes about 3 to 4 hours, and winds through some of the most
spectacular views on Maui. Most Popular Destination in West Maui: Kaanapali - Are you looking for a place with alot of action? Kaanapali has been referred to as the Waikiki of Maui. However, Kaanapali is not an imitation of any place, it has an air of distinction, quality and sculptured beauty that Waikiki can only dream about. With miles and miles of golden beaches, world class golf courses and exquisite resorts. In the middle of Kaanapali is Black Rock which is a wonderful snorkeling spot. Whalers Village offers wonderful shopping, dinning and a free whaling museum. Ka'anapali probably has more restaurants located with-in walking distance of more hotels than anywhere on Maui. Kaanapali offers a boardwalk that stretches from one end starting at the Hyatt Regency and goes all the way to the Sheraton at Black Rock. One could spend an entire day touring these outstanding resorts, shopping and dining along the way. General Condo and Home Information: Condo and home properties come in all shapes and sizes and narrowing down the best type can be such a headache! Here are some helpful hints in determining the best accommodation for your party. Condos come in several sizes from studio to 4 bedrooms. Homes range in size from 2 bedroom up to 7 bedroom estates. Typically a studio will hold up to 3 people, a one bedroom will hold up to 4 people, a two bedroom up to 6 people, 3 bedroom up to 8, and a 4 bedroom up to 10 people. These maximums can very, but the Maui Fire Department has set these maximums to ensure the best possible safety at the properties. No exceptions will be made within our rental pools. If you have more than 10 people then we suggest looking at rental home options. Try to determine what type of accommodation you are looking for by asking yourself the following questions: *Do we want a high rise? Properties that are over 4 stories A low rise? Properties that are less than 4 stories Beachfront Property? With a sandy beach Oceanfront Property? Beach may be rocky or have a sea wall Across from the beach? We have some beautiful golf course properties and properties located directly across from a sandy beach A condo with air conditioning? Only about 25% of properties do have a/c. Most properties that offer a/c are not central a/c but window units Washer/Dryer in the unit? Most properties offer w/d units inside the condo or offer coin-op laundry facilities on site What price range are we comfortable with? Beach front condo properties and resort area's (like Kaanapali, Wailea/Makena, and Kapalua) will be at the higher end of the price scale. Properties across the street or with a rocky beach area will be at the lower end of the price scale. Price ranges are given for each property on the individual websites. Low season generally runs from April 15 to June 20 and from Sept 1 to Dec 15. High season runs during the summer months and winter season. Peak rates will typically run during the holiday season and the month of February. It is best to book a year in advance during the peak/high seasons. Minimum night stays may also be required during these busy times. In general a 4-5 night stay requirement is in effect during regular season and 7 or more during high season. General Reservation Information: We have over 2000 condos and home rentals on Maui and although reservation policies vary per property, in general they are fairly similar. They all require a deposit upon making the reservation with payment made via a credit card. Most properties only take Master Card or Visa, but some will take AMEX or Diners. There are a number of properties that require all payments be made by check only. In this case we allow 10 days for the deposit payment to be received by mail, and we will fax or email a deposit request to you within 24 hours. Deposits vary from $100 to 5 nights. Most properties require that the final balance be paid at least 30 to 60 days prior to arrival. If your booking a reservation with an arrival date of less than 30 days, then the full payment will be required. The holiday season (typically from Dec. 20 to Jan 10) may require the final balance to be paid 60 days or more prior to arrival. Cancellation is typically required 30-45 days prior to arrival. Again, during the holiday season a 60 day cancellation policy may apply. Cancellation fees will range from $25 to $100. After the final balance has been paid and you are within 30 days of arrival and need to cancel, you will loose all monies. Some properties will attempt to rebook your space and prorate a refund to you. We always suggest travel protection insurance. A few properties will offer this insurance with your reservation, but most will not. You can go out on your own and purchase insurance if you choose. What is the weather like? The Isle of Maui
is blessed with one of most ideal climates in the world. When you watch
or listen to our local weather reports they are borderline redundant
everyday! Reports range from sunny & warm usually in the 78 - 85
degree's area to sunny & warm with occasional rain in the mountain
area's usually in the morning or evening periods. The winds blow in
a predominately Northeasterly direction which we call "Trade Winds".
